10 year ago today…

I can recall the exact events of the day. It was a regular old Saturday. I was dreading going to church the next day and being greeted with statements like “you’re still here?” or “when is that baby coming?” I was due with my first child the following day. My mother in law called that afternoon to check in. She wanted to know if they should make the 5 hour trip across to meet their first grandchild. Sadly, I told her no. There were no signs of anything starting.

Around 7:00 I was lying on the couch watching tv. Aaron had a pizza in the oven. Suddenly, I heard the strangest noise… like nothing I have ever heard before. It’s hard to even describe now. It was like really loud rushing water in my ears. For some reason, I jumped up off of the couch. Aaron laughed at me and said “What’s going on? I haven’t seen you move that fast in months!” I looked down and I was soaked… like drenched!

We arrived at the hospital and the nurse said she needed to test the fluid to make sure it was actually my water that had broke. Jokingly, I said “well, either way, I need to be admitted because if that wasn’t my water then something else is seriously wrong with me.” She didn’t find me very funny, lol.

They did the usual stuff getting me prepped for all that was about to take place. The nurse couldn’t find the baby’s heartbeat. So she attempted to put those probes on her head to get a heartbeat. She said “I can’t find the head.” Now, I don’t think she is very funny.

Turns out that Jayda had flipped into the breech position once again. You see, this child was active. At 36 weeks, she was head down and all looked good. At my 38 week check up, she was breech. The dr decided to schedule an aversion at 39 weeks. We get to that appointment and she had already flipped back into the head down position. You would think that a woman would feel a 7 lb baby completely changing directions… nope! I had no clue.

So, here we were at 40 weeks, ruptured water, and a breech baby. The dr recommended a c-section in this scenario. I recall saying “Whatever is best for the baby. Just get her here safely.” By 10:07pm our beautiful daughter Jayda Rose entered the world. She was and is all that we had hoped for. We were blessed beyond belief. And, I did not have to go to church in the morning without my baby being born ;)

It’s hard to believe that was 10 years ago…

I remember that night so well! She was the youngest baby I’d ever held to that point, and sweet as can be. To this day, she’s still my favorite niece!.:)
